A Thank You

These past four months have been remarkable. I’ve been doing what I do every fall – touring the nation’s schools talking to students, teachers and parents about bullying. I’ve reached tens of thousands of people this season from all walks of life – from big cities and sprawling suburbs, to small towns and rural agricultural communities. I’ve met so many people who have truly touched my heart and their honesty and kindness has made a lasting impression.

This tour season was made exceptionally rewarding by my affiliation with SocialShield. Everywhere I went I spoke about the folks at SocialShield and their relentless commitment to helping parents keep their kids safe on the Internet. It’s been such a blessing and privilege to spread the word about this service to families impacted by cyberbullying and other Internet dangers.

For years, parents at my seminars would ask how to protect their children online and I never had an adequate answer. I could offer general guidelines about computer usage in the home and monitoring their son or daughter’s activities. But until SocialShield, there wasn’t a specific company or service I felt confident enough to refer worried parents.

When SocialShield approached me earlier this year and asked if I would work with them, I was skeptical at first. A lot of entities solicit my support or endorsement, from publishers to scholastic companies to other anti-bullying programs. I’m very careful about what I take on because I’ve worked hard to earn the trust of students, educators and parents. Therefore, maintaining that trust is always my ultimate priority. The executives at SocialShield invited me to come out to their office and meet their team. I had a good feeling about this opportunity, and within a week I was on my way to California to talk with everyone in person.

It was the one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve recommended SocialShield to so many parents, and I can actually see the relief on their faces when I hand them the SocialShield brochure. It is as if I had given them back their ability to breathe.

So thank you, SocialShield, for giving me the strongest tool yet in fighting to help kids and their families impacted by bullying. I am so honored to be a part of your team and can’t wait until January when my tour starts all over again! Here’s to saving more kids!
