Jane Lynch Gives “Text Ed” to Stomp Out Sexting
January 10, 2011 at 12:01 pm 0 commentsWe know celebrities and public figures can do stupid things online and with their phones, but other people are using their fame to speak out against these tech blunders. Actress Jane Lynch, who plays Coach Sue Sylvester on Glee, is the newest addition to LG’s campaign for safe texting. LG also promotes smart texting practices through their Give It a Ponder initiative.

While the focus of Lynch’s involvement with LG’s educational campaign is to raise awareness about the dangers of texting while driving, she also addresses other related issues such as sexting. Her “Text Ed” video about this specific kind of overshare and reputation damaging danger can be seen below.
Sending inappropriate text messages over the phone – whether it’s explicit photos, steamy messages, or both – is never smart, and teens can send the same content through social networking sites. Talk to your kids about the serious consequences that can result from inappropriate messages, including damaging their online reputation or becoming a target for online predators. Kids don’t always think through what they’re doing online, especially if their friends and classmates participate in similar – and inappropriate – online activities. Remind your kids that just because sexting or putting inappropriate content online is the normal or cool thing to do, it’s NEVER worth it.
What’s your reaction to these promotional videos? Do you think they raise the right kind of awareness about the dangers of sexting?
