Bullying and Suicides in American Schools

Every parent should read this heartbreaking story about four suicides that occurred at one Ohio school.  In the course of just a few years, four teenagers took their lives after being mercilessly bullied by their schoolmates.  In the case of Sladjana Vidovic, even death did not afford her peace: the very same teens that bullied her to death mocked her lifeless body as it lay in its casket.  Now the school district is facing two lawsuits from the grieving families saying their schools did too little to stop the incessant bullying.

This story should serve as a serious wake-up call to every school or school district to step up its anti-bullying efforts.  If there is any proof that bullying is an epidemic, this is it.  Parents should demand that schools take bullying very seriously – and not let it grow worse.  After all, the growing use of social media will only make the problem more pronounced if it is not tackled head-on.
